Canmore is an incredible place to visit and to live. Its small town charm combined with world class scenery and facilites makes this place truly a hidden gem in the Rockies.
The quaint Main St offers a plethora of award winning restaurants, fashion boutiques, cafes, excellent art galleries, antique and home furnishing shops. The mountains surrounding Canmore offer an endless list of activities and adventure opportunities.
Canmore's History
In 1884 Canmore was given its name after Malcolm III Canmore, ruler of Scotland and in 1887 the town developed into one of the many coal mining sites in the Rockies. The first mine was opened just below Ha Ling Peak, Canmore. Canmore Mines Ltd shut its doors in 1979 due to collapsing Japanese markets.
